Plateaus and Mesas and Buttes

Calf Creek to Hanksville:

After leaving Kiva’s and Calf Creek, we traveled through more of picturesque Utah, including Capitol Reef National Park.  I’ll let the photos do some of the talking for me:

The road leaving Calf Creek—they're a little hard to spot, but Dave and Austin are in this photo

We stopped for a break in a small town called Torrey, which is in between Boulder and Hanksville.  The woman I spoke with (at a deli called Austin’s Chuck Wagon...hi Austin!) told me about the recycling program that’s just getting started.  When I asked if the city was implementing the program, she laughed and replied, “what city?”  It turns out that since Torrey is so small (population ~200), the county government is in control of Torrey’s municipal operations.  As a result, Wayne County is implementing the recycling program.  Great!

Fun fact: Wayne County has zero stop lights and, according to the woman at Austin’s Chuck Wagon, the “stop signs are optional.”  A police officer might disagree, but at a place that sells postcards that read “Greetings from the middle of nowhere,” I would expect a bit of lawlessness.
